For most of my life, walls surrounded my heart
With doors that stayed wide open.
I’d stand there, inviting in everyone I met,
Safely nestled inside.
They’d come in and take things they liked & needed,
I was glad to help.
Most of them forgot to say goodbye when they’d leave,
I’m sure it just slipped their minds.
It’s weird, now I have no walls but closed doors.
I feel safe in the wild freedom of my life.
Some are invited in, the ones who see me as I am, not as they are.
They never forget to say goodbye,
And they always invite me in.
